The Short Answer

  • Unchaind and PrayBreak are both Christian apps for quitting porn and lust, built in different shapes. Unchaind is an all-in-one with a community, an AI Bible chat and a blocker; PrayBreak is built around one moment, the urge, with a press-and-hold reset (LOOK, PRAY, MOVE). We make PrayBreak; weigh this page accordingly.
  • Unchaind may suit you better if you want a community feed, an AI Bible companion, daily Bible reading, a journal, Android or iPad support, or a language other than English.
  • PrayBreak may suit you better if you want a guided prayer standing between you and the urge, apps that open only after you pray, no account, and a recovery record that stays on your phone.
  • Their privacy labels differ. Unchaind's App Store label lists identifiers, usage data and sensitive info used to track you; PrayBreak's lists no tracking.
  • Every Unchaind fact comes from its own App Store and Google Play listings, website and privacy policy, checked October 26, 2026; check again before you subscribe.

If you're weighing Unchaind, or looking for an alternative to it, the honest answer is that both Unchaind and PrayBreak are Christian, and they're built for different jobs. Unchaind gathers a lot into one app: a panic button, a content blocker, a community, an AI Bible companion, daily Bible reading, check-ins and a journal. PrayBreak does less on purpose. It meets the urge itself with a three-second hold, a short exercise, a guided prayer and a physical reset, and it keeps the apps you choose shut until you pray.

Disclosure: we make PrayBreak. To keep this fair, every Unchaind fact below comes from Unchaind's own App Store listing, Google Play listing, website and privacy policy, checked on October 26, 2026. We don't score either app, and we say plainly where Unchaind is the better fit.

PrayBreak vs Unchaind: what's the difference?

Both apps are openly Christian. The difference is scope. Unchaind is a daily companion with community, Bible reading, an AI Bible chat, a journal and a blocker. PrayBreak is a tool for the moment an urge hits: press and hold, then look away, pray a guided prayer and move, with apps you pick opening only after you pray.

Is Unchaind a Christian app?

Yes. Unchaind's website describes "Faith, accountability, and biblical wisdom to help you overcome lust and pornography," and its Google Play listing calls it a "Christian app to beat lust and overcome porn." Its milestones, daily reading and AI companion are all built around Scripture. If you're choosing between Unchaind and PrayBreak, you aren't choosing between faith and no faith.

So the useful question is how each app brings faith in. Unchaind spreads it across your day: a five-minute Bible reading, audio prayers, a community to post prayer requests in, and an AI chat that answers from Scripture. PrayBreak concentrates it at the hardest minute. When you press and hold, the middle step is a guided prayer in five short steps, so you don't have to find words while the urge is loudest.

Some people want both: a daily rhythm and a tool for the moment. Nothing stops you from using a Bible-reading habit, a church small group or another app alongside PrayBreak. If you'd rather have it all in one place, Unchaind is built for that.

Does PrayBreak have a panic button like Unchaind?

Yes, in its own form: the Break button. Press and hold it for three seconds and PrayBreak leads you through LOOK, PRAY and MOVE. Unchaind's website describes a Panic Button that gives "instant prayer, Scripture, and community support." Both turn you toward God in the moment; PrayBreak adds a physical reset and keeps you inside one guided sequence.

  1. HOLD

Press and hold the Break button while it counts down 3-2-1. Letting go early cancels.

  2. LOOK

One of seven short attention exercises, each with a verse, such as following a light around a dove.

  3. PRAY

One of twenty guided prayers, five short steps each. It ends with Amen.

  4. MOVE

One of eighteen physical resets, from cold water on your face to leaving the room for a two-minute walk.

Finishing the whole reset adds one to your Urges Broken count. If you want the same approach without any app, here is the four-step plan for stopping a porn urge right now.

How does porn blocking compare in Unchaind and PrayBreak?

On iPhone, both lean on Apple's own Screen Time filter. Unchaind's listing says it "turns on the web content filter built into iOS," and blocking custom sites and apps is part of its Max tier. On Android it runs a local DNS filter on the device. PrayBreak's App Shield works differently: the apps you pick stay shut until you pray, then open for 5 to 20 minutes.

Unchaind's Google Play listing explains its Android filter plainly: it uses a local VPN on your device that only looks at DNS requests, with no VPN server involved, and you switch it on and off yourself. If you need a blocker on an Android phone, PrayBreak can't help, and Unchaind can.

PrayBreak has no permanent-block mode and no partner key. A shielded app shows PRAY FIRST, and finishing a prayer opens it for the time you chose before it locks again, even with PrayBreak closed. PrayBreak doesn't filter websites itself and can't see whether iPhone's adult-website setting is on; a "Test your shield" button opens Safari so you can check. Whichever app you choose, a filter is strongest when someone you trust holds the Screen Time passcode: here's how to set that up.

How much does Unchaind cost compared to PrayBreak?

Both are free to download and need a subscription for full use. Unchaind's App Store listing shows in-app purchases from $6.99 to $49.99, including a $49.99 yearly plan and a separate Max tier, and its website says plans start at $6.99 a month. PrayBreak is $5.99 a week, $29.99 every 3 months with a 3-day free trial for eligible subscribers, or $13.99 a month.

Unchaind's listing shows several prices for its PRO subscription without saying which billing period each covers, so the offer you see in the app may differ from someone else's. Its listings don't state a free-trial length. Check the price on the paywall before you subscribe, and remember that an App Store subscription is cancelled in Settings, not by deleting the app.

What do Unchaind's and PrayBreak's App Store privacy labels say?

Unchaind's label lists identifiers, usage data and sensitive info that may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites. PrayBreak's label lists no tracking. PrayBreak needs no account and keeps your recovery record on your phone; Unchaind's privacy policy describes an account and stores journal entries encrypted on its servers.

Labels are the developer's own declaration rather than an audit, and they change with updates, so tap App Privacy on each listing for the current version. PrayBreak's label lists a phone number because support messages, if you send one, go through Messages. Its check-ins, relapses, streaks and saved prayers stay on the phone with no cloud sync. Unchaind's privacy policy says you can request your data be exported or deleted.

Should you choose Unchaind or PrayBreak?

Choose Unchaind if you want a Christian all-in-one: community, AI Bible chat, daily reading, a journal, Android or iPad support, or a language besides English. Choose PrayBreak if you want a guided prayer in the moment an urge hits, apps that open only after you pray, and no account or feed.

Unchaind may be the better fit if…

  • You want people around you in the app. Its community feed is built for prayer requests and encouragement; PrayBreak has none.
  • You want a daily rhythm, not just a rescue. Daily Bible reading, audio prayers, check-ins and a private journal are all built in.
  • You want to ask questions and get Scripture back. Its AI Bible companion does that; PrayBreak has no chat.
  • You use Android or an iPad, or read best in another language. Unchaind's listings cover all of these; PrayBreak is iPhone only, in English.

PrayBreak may be the better fit if…

  • You want prayer in the moment itself, with a guided prayer standing between you and the urge.
  • You want apps that open only after you pray, for 5 to 20 minutes at a time.
  • You'd rather not have a feed, a chatbot or an account. PrayBreak asks for no email or name.
  • You want your recovery record to stay on your phone, and an App Store label with no tracking.
  • You want a fall handled without a verdict. I Relapsed asks what got past you and resets the streak, while your longest streak, Urges Broken count and calendar stay.

Both apps are rated 16+ on the App Store. If you're younger, a parent, youth pastor or school counselor is a better place to start, and you don't have to carry this alone.

What are other Unchaind alternatives?

If you want a person to see your activity, an accountability app such as Covenant Eyes or Ever Accountable fits better than either app here. iPhone's Screen Time filters adult websites for free. And the alternative that may matter most isn't an app: one honest person, a pastor or a counselor who knows what you're fighting.

Our Covenant Eyes alternatives comparison covers the accountability apps side by side, and our wider app comparison covers more options, including secular ones. If you're unsure whether you need a wall or a tool for the moment, blockers versus in-the-moment tools explains how the two fit together.

Tell one person the truth: a friend, a pastor, a small-group leader. If porn use feels out of control, a licensed counselor can help, and asking is not a verdict on your faith. The Christian porn recovery guide puts these pieces together.
